What is OFX?

Open Financial Exchange is a financial interchange format used for bank and credit-card downloads. Older OFX 1.x files use SGML, while newer versions use XML.

Both common SGML and XML bank statements are supported. Posted dates, exact amounts, payee names, memos, transaction IDs and check numbers are extracted. Investment and tax sections are outside this converter’s scope.

Output · .xlsx

What the workbook includes

Your OFX statement becomes an Excel workbook with a Transactions sheet and available statement metadata. Dates and ordinary monetary amounts use native cell types; values beyond Excel’s precision limit stay as text.

Missing fields stay empty. No exchange rates are applied, and text that could be interpreted as a spreadsheet formula is neutralized.

Common questions

Does this support older OFX files without closing field tags?

Yes. OFX 1.x leaf fields may omit closing tags. Transaction and statement sections still need their closing tags so that records can be separated safely. XML-style exports are also checked for well-formed XML.

How do I open a OFX file in Excel?

Excel has no built-in OFX import, so opening the file directly shows raw statement data instead of a transaction table. Choose the file in the converter above, check the preview, then download the Excel file. It opens in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers or LibreOffice with one row per transaction.

Are my bank files uploaded anywhere?

No. Files are read and converted in your browser. Neither the original file nor the converted data is sent to a server.

Is the converter free to use?

Yes. All supported conversions are free, with no account or subscription required.

Can I convert a PDF bank statement?

PDFs, screenshots, CSV inputs and Excel inputs are not supported. Download a CAMT.053, MT940, OFX, QFX, QBO or QIF export from your bank instead.

Will the exported amounts be rounded?

Amounts are kept as exact decimal strings during conversion and in CSV. Excel has a 15-digit numeric precision limit, so values that exceed safe limits are exported as text. No currency conversion or balance estimation is performed.
